Kia Ora !*FIRSTNAME*!,

Yes it is one and the same, Ruth, but surname has changed to Crampton!!!

Welcome to the recommencement of our Industry Marketing Bulletin, detailing activity and famils undertaken by the office.

First lot of news is Hayley McVicar, our Domestic / Events Co-ordinator has resigned to travel to Dubai with her husband.  Thank you Hayley for your outstanding efforts in the role over the past year and enjoy your change of scenery. Her last day is June 20.
Since our last newsletter, as you will know, Stacey Neale has left us and Melissa Gray joined us late in 2007 as C & I Co-ordinator. Melissa has been very proactive to keep Bureau activity ticking along and I look forward to working with her.

As I've had the opportunity to have a break, it's time to take a step back and review our collateral, markets and target segments to ensure we are maximising our dollar spend.  With the pending Trans Tasman service, Australia once again features as a major market with potential.  We have worked in that market over the past three years to position Rotorua with the trade and have participated in What's On with Tourism NZ twice to raise our profile with the consumer.  Good growth has been seen from Australia so this important market deserves a bit more funding as the other major international markets start to soften.  We will develop a draft marketing plan for 2008/2009 and then happily share that with you.

And of course TRENZ, here from 26 – 29 May 2008, please ensure your staff are all aware that we will have buyers in town during that week and potentially before and after.  The more pleasant the buyers' experience in Rotorua, the better word of mouth on their return!!

Keep in touch and let us know if any product / service updates as they happen.

Kind regards
Ruth Crampton

The Welcome Function on Monday is being hosted by Destination Rotorua and will have a modern Rotorua feel to it.  Catering will be a mix of indigenous food, kiwi favourites and seafood to highlight the range of tastes in New Zealand.
On the Tuesday evening after the appointments close, Regional Rendezvous will be held within the venue.  Rotorua will be hosting drinks and nibbles on the stand along with some entertainment that fits the region.

New Imagery

The new imagery is due to be shot over the first two weeks of June.  We are currently undertaking a small survey of past clients who have used Rotorua and those who have not to ascertain their motivators and what they enjoyed about their time here.  Based on that we will shoot imagery that we hope will wow prospective clients!!

Bureau famils

There are 2 famils thru the Bureau happening in Rotorua over the next couple of weeks. We have Altrusa this coming weekend (Looking for a destination for 600 pax in 2013) and Chermaine Tan of Safe2Travel coming thru as she will be the operations manager for the Singaporean Incentive Group of 600 pax that Rotorua has confirmed for November 08. – Both of these programmes have been set and confirmed with the guests, so I am sorry if you are not included on these.

With the airport developments, the Australian market is also a focus over the next year and we will be compiling a list of target publications over the next couple of weeks. Any operators wishing to be involved please contact Justine.

Rotorua editorial is set to appear in various publications over the next month, including Jason's Travel Guide and the Waikato Times.

A self-famil invitation has gone out to the TNZ team, to encourage them to keep up to date with Rotorua products. All operators are also welcome to contact TNZ directly for sales calls.

Remember, if you have any inquiries about media, or have a new product you'd like to see included in an itinerary or as editorial pitched to TNZ, please don't hesitate to let Justine know. We can also work with operators to create media proposals if you have specific publications you'd like to target. Phone (07) 349 7286 or e-mail

Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter

The Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill puts in place provisions to reduce the amount of waste from households and businesses.  A key provision of the bill is the adoption of product stewardship programs, which embrace the ‘cradle to cradle' (C2C) philosophy of creating products whose materials are perpetually circulated in closed loops, versus being recycled into inferior products and eventually put in landfill.

Charter members Rainbow Springs, Whakarewarewa Village and Polynesian Spa are all using a C2C product in their choice of carpet – these businesses have chosen Interface as their carpet supplier.  When carpets need replacing Interface returns the worn carpet to the factory for remanufacture into new carpet of equal quality to the original carpet.

Learn more about the C2C principles in McDonough and Braungart's ‘Cradle to Cradle – Remaking the Way We Make Things' (available for purchase locally at McLeods Booksellers on 1269 Tutanekai St).
