Have Your Senses Tickled at Rotorua Museum
A vibrant, fun exhibition called Tickle My Senses opens at Rotorua Museum on 26 June 2010.
This colour-coded treasure trove of over 40 artworks, inspired by Dr Seuss and Sesame Street, promises to appeal to families, especially to three to ten year olds.
The exhibition, which has been developed and toured by TheNewDowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt, encourages visitors to respond to art in ways beyond just looking. By appealing to senses of touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight, visitors will enjoy a range of eclectic artworks in innovative and playful ways.
Tickle My Senses continues at Rotorua Museum until 19 September 2010.

Rotorua gets International Safe Community accreditation
Rotorua has achieved International Safe Community status following an evaluation from members of Safe Communities Foundation NZ and other central government agencies.
International safe Communities is a World Health Organisation concept aimed at encouraging greater cooperation and collaboration amongst non-government, business, and central and local government agencies.
Safe Communities Foundation NZ director Dr Carolyn Coggan says the review team was highly impressed by the calibre of Rotorua’s application document.
“It is one of the most comprehensive from New Zealand or around the world. There is a range of comprehensive safety programmes operating, and outcomes have been identified to measure their reach and impact. It is evident that there is good collaboration between different groups in Rotorua working to improve safety.”

Rotorua Winter Fishing Update
Winter shoreline fishing had got off to a slow start but in mid May things began to fire as the region received heavy overnight rain. Spawning trout are hugely stimulated by cold, wet weather. Since then we have quite literally had a flood of fish accumulating at the stream mouths and their liberation points. Anglers have reported good catches from the popular locations at Okataina, Tarawera and Rotoiti.
Boat fishing on many of the lakes also remains successful and we have received good reports from Rotoiti (jigging) and Rerewhakaaitu (shallow trolling). Blue Lake is also productive at this time of year, both shore-based at night off the main beach and trolling the drop-off’s with a colour or two of lead line and a pink tassie.

Safari, soup and Socialise
New Zealand Riverjet has introduced a free novel addition to all its winter jetboat thermal safari tours – a ‘soup and socialize’ offering.
At the end of all New Zealand Riverjet tours during winter, visitors now have the opportunity to share their day’s experiences and to get to know their fellow travellers better, over a free cup of delicious hot soup.
This opportunity to socialize over a ‘hot cuppa’ at the end of each jet boat thermal safari has been extremely well received, and New Zealand Riverjet is delighted with the excellent feedback from its visitors.
