Kia Ora !*FIRSTNAME*!,

Several weeks ago DRTM circulated a survey/request to industry, soliciting feedback regarding the Jasons Rotorua Visitor Guides (pros and cons).

We asked for your comments on the Guide - what you like about it, what you don’t like, how it’s working for you - or not, etc. The decision to seek wider industry comment was made in response to general discussions with a few industry individuals who independently brought their concerns and comments about the Jasons guide, in comparison to the former Rotorua Visitor Guide (produced by DRTM), to our attention.

After receiving a reasonable amount of responses, we moderated these in order to find the ‘burning issues’. Generally, the support for the Jason’s Rotorua Visitor Guide was positive with a majority of respondents approving of the publication and satisfied that it was, for the most part, serving its purpose well.

However, the most consistent negative comment related to the cost of advertising being substantially more than the rate charged for the former Rotorua Visitor Guide. We discussed this and other issues with Jason’s management. Jason’s response is that they endeavor to produce a quality publication that fulfils the requirements of a destinational visitor guide (largely prescribed by DRTM) at a competitive rate for advertisers.

The Jason’s Rotorua Visitor Guide does represent a bigger investment for advertisers than the former RVG, however comparing the options, with consideration for growing content, quarterly production, quantities in circulation, and the scale of distribution, DRTM continue to deem the Jasons option as more effective, efficient and sustainable. The survey results largely support this direction.

Jasons add that they continue to increase circulation and distribution while maintaining advertising rates. For example, distribution through Auckland i-site has increased by 4,000 copies for the latest spring edition over last summer. The Jason’s street-boxes continue to perform exceptionally well. Distribution extends to Sydney International Airport.

DRTM believe that these factors add substantial benefits to advertisers that the former Visitor Guide could not match. While there are shortfalls with the Jasons option, overall it out performs its predecessor and will continue as the official Rotorua Visitor Guide for the foreseeable future.

Thanks again for your helpful feedback.
